About Our Teachers

Our teachers are highly skilled and experienced Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong practitioners. They have spent many years practicing these ancient Chinese arts and developing their knowledge and ability to a high level.

More importantly, our teachers are all great at teaching Tai Chi and Qi Gong.

All of our teachers are fully insured, DBS checked and first aid trained.

John Livesey

The chief instructor and founder of Applied Tai Chi and Qi Gong is John Livesey. John is an experienced instructor with a clear, constructive and supportive approach. He is passionate about Tai Chi and Qi Gong and its ability to improve physical and mental health and well-being.

John is is also a practising acupuncturist, and qualified from the Northern College of Acupuncture with a first class honours degree.

John took up martial arts in the 1980’s and began his Tai Chi and Qi Gong training at the age of 15. In the early part of his martial arts career he concentrated on external martial arts, training in Taekwondo, a style in which he holds a 2nd Dan black belt. John progressed into the internal martial arts and has focussed exclusively on Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong for the last 20 years.

John is an active Tai Chi and Qi Gong practitioner and trains regularly with his teacher, Mr Paul Florkowski, at the Lancaster School of Tai Chi Chuan.

John’s other Tai Chi and Qi Gong influences include Sifu Michael Fielden of White Cloud Tai Chi, a local Tai Chi and Kung Fu teacher with many years of experience in the art.

Paul Florkowski

Paul Florkowski is the chief instructor of the Lancaster school of Tai Chi Chuan, which he founded in 1995. Paul is an inspirational teacher with decades of martial arts experience. He is passionate about teaching Classical Yang Style Tai Chi, and preserving this ancient martial art.

We’ll work with you to understand your abilities and we’ll personalise our teaching to meet your needs and help you make progress.

Training should be fun and enjoyable, so our approach is informal, constructive and supportive.

We are clear and open about what we teach. There are no secrets.

In our classes and courses you’ll have great instruction. This is backed up with online resources to deepen your knowledge and to help you practice in your own time.

Tai Chi and Qi Gong are huge subjects and there are many opportunities to learn different aspects of these ancient Chinese arts. We encourage you to walk your own path, and we will walk that path alongside you.
