Qi Gong Syllabus

Qi is the internal, life energy that circulates throughout the human body. Gong refers to skill or work. So, Qi Gong is the skill of working with your Qi. This includes building your Qi and ensuring it circulates freely to optimise your health.

Standing Postures and Body Alignments

Students begin by learning simple standing postures (Wuji and Zhan Zuang) and correct body alignments to relax the muscles, activate the body’s internal network of connective tissue and create free flow of Qi throughout the body.

Breathwork and the Lower Dan Tian

Students learn breathwork techniques, including deep abdominal breathing. This settles and calms the body and mind. Students are taught to locate and activate the Lower Dan Tian, an energy centre that is fundamental to the generation and transformation of Qi in the body.

Meditation

Moving Qi Gong

The principles learned in standing postures, breathwork and meditation are carried forward into movement, allowing the body to stretch and flex to promotes the free flow of Qi.

Students learn several moving Qi Gong sets. Initially, 18 Movement Shibashi Qi Gong, to support the early stages of learning the Tai Chi form. Students go on to learn the Ji Ben Gong (Simplified Qi Gong) Ba Duan Jin (8 Silken Brocades), and Five Elements (Wu Xing) Qi Gong sets.
